Welcome to the Diaphragmatic Pacing System Course.
This course is aimed to provide nurses with an evidence-based method of handling patients with a diaphragmatic pacing system.
Diaphragmatic pacing can be used in patients with ventilatory failure due to severe weakness or paralysis of the diaphragm as a means to eliminate or reduce the need for ventilatory support. Intact phrenic nerve function is required for effective pacing.
Upon completion of this course, the participants should be able to:
- Provide an evidenced-based method of handling patients with a diaphragmatic pacing system.
- Define scope and delimitations pertaining to protocol and procedure.
- Define the responsibilities of staff involved in the treatment.
